  Paperhand Puppet Intervention  

Since June of 2000 Puppet Uprising has. hosted more than 50 events in Philadelphia featuring hundreds of puppet shows by scores of different artists. Many of these aritsts are from other cities that boast thriving puppet cultures of their own, and lots of these artists bring their shows on their road, hopping from town to town, performing in all kinds of places along the way.

The Last Hurrah of the Clementines. The new full-length play by the Missoula Oblongata hits the road this summer—More details soon to come!

New England

Last Tuesday of every month in Montpelier, VT: MYSTERY FUN NIGHT—a variety show of puppets, music and mayhem hosted by Ben T. Matchstick at the Langdon St. Café, located at 4 Langdon St. downstairs from Black Sheep Books.

July & August in Glover, VT: THE BREAD & PUPPET CIRCUS, at the Bread & Puppet Farm, 753 Heights Road, beginning every Sunday at 3pm. The Circus is preceded by Ding-Dong shows and followed by a pageant and other performances. There is also a completely different program on Friday nights throughout the summer. October 10-12 in Somerville, MA: HONK! Festival—an interbational gathering of radical street bands. Friday night features concerts to benefit touring bands, on Saturday day all the bands play at outdoor locations in Davis Square, and on Sunday the festival culminates in a giant puppet parade from Davis Square to Harvard Square. May 1-11 in Hudson, NY: The Bread & Puppet Theater's Divine Comedy Reality Circus, at Time Space Limited, 434 Columbia Street.

April 17-May 17 in New York City: "The Univerity of Majd" with Bread & Puppet founder and director Peter Schumann. Opening event April 17, 6-9pm at Honey Space, 148 11th Ave. between 21st and 22nd Streets.

May 20-31 in Brooklyn: Great Small Works 8th International Toy Theater Festival! At St. Anne's Warehouse.

Mid-Atlantic U.S.

May 2 & 3 in Philadelphia: Puppet Uprising's May Day Cabaret featuring Erik Ruin, Katt Hernandez, Amy Trompetter, Sam Wilson, Marianne Ross, Lucy Schneider, Shoddy Puppet Company, Cheap Art and more! 8pm at the Rotunda, 4014 Walnut Street, pay-what-you-want admission.

June 3-7 in Baltimore: PARADE SCHOOL: an advanced training program for artists and community organizers interested in the artistry of community based parades. Hosted by Nana Projects with guest instruction from Macnas (Galway, Ireland), Spiral Q Puppet Theater, (Philadelphia), The Great Halloween Lantern Parade (Baltimore), Alison Heimstead (Los Angeles) and others. May 4 in Minneapolis: In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre's 34th Annual May Day Parade and Festival. Parade starts on Lake Strett at 1pm and proceeds to Powderhorn Park. The Ceremony begins in the park at 3pm and the Festival follows.

May 13 & 14 in Montreal: The Bread & Puppet Theater's Divine Comedy Reality Circus at the D.B. Clarke Theatre, Concordia University, 1455 de Maisonneuve West, (Metro Guy-Concordia). Part of the Montreal Anarchist Theatre Festival. 1pm parade through the streets, 3pm ceremony in Powderhorn Park.
